Oaty Blueberry and Apple Crumble

Berries and oranges are a very good source of vitamin C, which is important for many body processes including a strong immune system, healthy skin and connective tissues. A serving of this crumble provides a third of your recommended daily intake of this vitamin.

Ingredients

For the topping

Wholemeal flour   (50g)
Oats  (50g)
Pinch of allspice
Light muscovado sugar  (25g)
Butter  (30g)

For the filling

1 large cooking apple, washed, cut into quarters, cored and sliced (170g)
Fresh or frozen mixed berries (100g)
1 medium orange, juiced

Method

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Put the flour, oats and allspice into a bowl.
  3. Mix in the sugar and rub in the butter until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs
  4. To assemble the crumble, mix the apple, berries and the juice from the orange together and place in a greased oven proof dish.
  5. Sprinkle over the crumble mixture.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes until the fruit has softened and released its juices and the crumble is crisp.
